What are FBLA Competitions?
FBLA offers over 70 competitive events that cover a wide range of business, technology, and leadership topics. Competitions allow members to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, with top performers advancing from Regional to State and National Leadership Conferences.
Types of Events
Objective Tests
These are 60-minute online exams that test your knowledge on specific subjects. Examples include:
- Accounting I & II
- Business Law
- Economics
- Introduction to Business Procedures
- Marketing
Production Events
These events involve a production test (creating documents, spreadsheets, etc.) followed by an objective test. Examples include:
- Computer Applications
- Spreadsheet Applications
- Word Processing
Performance Events (Role Plays & Presentations)
These events require you to present to judges, either with a prepared presentation or a case study role play. Examples include:
- Business Ethics
- Client Service
- Emerging Business Issues
- Impromptu Speaking
- Public Speaking
- Sales Presentation
Competition Levels
- Bay Section Leadership Conference (BSLC): The regional competition where Irvington FBLA members compete against other schools in the Bay Area.
- State Leadership Conference (SLC): Top performers from BSLC advance to compete against students from all over California.
- National Leadership Conference (NLC): The best of the best from each state compete on the national stage.
